NGC/PCGS MS-69 1 oz American Silver Eagle Coin - Random Year and Spotted
The American Eagle Program made its debut in the numismatic world in 1986 with the release of the first U.S. Silver Eagle coin.
Silver Eagles feature patriotic imagery that expresses the Founding Fathers’ fundamental ideals through classic representations of Lady Liberty and the Eagle, enduring symbols of American coinage.
It contains one troy ounce of 99.9% pure silver and is legal tender at the USD 1 denomination. These coins, in particular, remain nearly flawless in terms of technical quality. However, they may display discoloration or spotting developed over time during storage or handling.
Today, SD Bullion sells 1 oz American Silver Eagle coins from various mintage years, graded MS-69. They may be housed in either NGC or PCGS slabs and sealed with different signature labels, randomly selected from our inventory at the time of shipping.

The Obverse Design
The obverse is a replica of Adolph A. Weinman’s Walking Liberty, imprinted on the 1917 Half-Dollar coin and rescued by the American Eagle Program.
In the image, Lady Liberty walks toward the sun's rays, the American flag draped over her shoulder, oak branches on her left arm, and her right arm extended in welcome.
It is inscribed with the word “LIBERTY” engraved on top, the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST” aside, and the year of mintage at the bottom.
The Original Reverse Design
The debuting reverse design was created by the US Mint Chief Engraver John Mercanti.
It displays a heraldic eagle with wings outstretched and a shield adorned with stars across its chest. The eagle holds a banner in its beak inscribed with "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and grasps arrows and olive branches in its talons. The thirteen stars on top symbolize the original colonies.
It also features the inscriptions “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “1 OZ FINE SILVER,” and “ONE DOLLAR.”
The New Reverse Design
The new reverse design, created by Emily Damstra, celebrates the 35th anniversary of the American Eagle Program in 2021 by showcasing the Bald Eagle perched on a branch with its open wings.
The accompanying engravings read “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “ONE DOLLAR,” “1 OZ,” and “FINE SILVER,” referring to the coin’s face value, weight, and metal content, separated by stars and the motto “E PLURIBUS UNUM.”
An NGC/PCGS MS-69 coin
NGC (Numismatic Guaranty Company) and PCGS (Professional Coin Grading Service) are third-party services that evaluate and grade coins using the Sheldon Grading Scale, which ranks coins from 1 to 70.
For both, MS stands for Mint State. MS coins are in the business coin format and are intended for widespread circulation. 69 is the grade given to coins whose flaws are almost invisible.
