  • The obverse features the Walking Liberty by Adolph A. Weinman;
  • New reverse mintage with Emily Damstra’s Bald Eagle.

The Design

The Walking Liberty, created in 1917 to be on the Hald Dollar coin, was rescued in the American Eagle program as the obverse of the Silver coins.

Lady Liberty figures as the nation receiving new inhabitants when she stands her arm and symbolizes abundance through the oak branches she carries. The American flag flies around her, and the sun rises in the background. “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and the year of mintage are the inscriptions on this side.

The reverse got a new design for the Bald Eagle to celebrate the program’s 35th anniversary. The Eagle has free open wings in a perching movement. Engravings regarding the coin’s weight, metal content, and purity read: “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “ONE DOLLAR,” “1 OZ,” and “FINE SILVER.” The motto “E PLURIBUS UNUM” completes the design.

The Sheldon Grading Scale

The Sheldon Scale is the standard for grading coins worldwide and is used by third-party grading services like the NGC to evaluate and certify the coins submitted.

The Scale is named after its creator, Dr. Willian Herbert Sheldon, and provides coins with a certain status to its condition and authenticity. From 70 to 1, the highest grade it gets, the more flawless the coin is.

An MS-70 Coin

An MS-70 coin is referred to as a perfect coin.

MS means Mint State and corresponds to a coin issued with the same format as a widespread circulation sample. However, it has never been in circulation, so it has no sign of wear, tear, scratching, or contact with other coins.
