The Design

As the moniker suggests, Lady Liberty walks toward the sun's rays enveloped in the American flag. She has oak and laurel branches in one hand while the other arm is stretched. The word “LIBERTY,” the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and the year of mintage completes the obverse design.

The Heraldic Eagle has the National Shield on its chest, arrows and olive branches on its talons, and a banner with the inscription “E PLURIBUS UNUM” on its beak. Thirteen pointed stars above the Eagle represent the original colonies.

The reverse also features the inscriptions “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “1 OZ FINE SILVER,” and “ONE DOLLAR,” describing the face value, weight, metal content, and purity.
