2020-(S) PCGS MS-70 First Strike 1 oz American Silver Eagle Emergency Production - Struck At San Francisco Mint
The 1 oz American Silver Eagle stands out as a timeless symbol of American craftsmanship, featuring the iconic Walking Liberty design paired with 1 troy ounce of .999 fine silver.
In 2020, a pivotal event in American coin history occurred during the COVID-19 pandemic. The increasing demand for Silver Eagles prompted the U.S. Mint to intensify production and provide an emergency supply to meet market demands.
These coins have no mint marks to identify their origins. Therefore, PCGS distinguishes them by including an “S” in parentheses on their labels to identify those issued at the San Francisco Mint.
SD Bullion sells 2020-(S) 1 oz American Silver Eagle Coins Struck at the San Francisco Mint in an Emergency Issue. They were purchased from the US Mint within 30 days of their official release and graded by PCGS as MS-70 samples.

The Design
The obverse features Adolph A. Weinman’s “The Walking Liberty” design. Folded in the American flag, Lady Liberty walks with oak and laurel branches in one hand as she stretches the other arm in a welcome sign.
It also displays the word “LIBERTY,” the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and the year of mintage.
The reverse, designed by the US Mint Chief Engraver, John Mercanti, depicts the Heraldic Eagle.
The eagle carries the National Shield on its chest, arrows and olive branches on its talons, and a banner with the inscription “E PLURIBUS UNUM” on its beak. The stars above the Heraldic Eagle represent the Thirteen Original Colonies.
Additional inscriptions reading “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “1 OZ FINE SILVER,” and “ONE DOLLAR” inform the face value, weight, metal content, and purity data.
A PCGS MS-70 First Strike coin
PCGS (Professional Coins Grading Service) appraises and certifies coins using the Sheldon Grading Scale, which ranks coins from 1 to 70.
PCGS considers “First Strike” a coin submitted to its appraisal purchased from its original mint within 30 days of its official release.
MS stands for Mint State, indicating a coin crafted in the format of a business circulation coin. Since it has never been in circulation, the coin has no flaws, which grants it a 70 grade.
