Coin Highlights

  • 1 oz of .999 fine silver;
  • USD 1 as face value and legal tender status;
  • 37th issue of the Silver Eagle program;
  • MS-69 grade, according to the NGC;
  • The Walking Liberty, by Adolph A. Weinman, is on the obverse;
  • The new Bald Eagle, by Emily Damstra, is on the reverse.

The Design

The Walking Liberty is the popular name attributed to the obverse design.

Lady Liberty is the symbol of a personified nation. She has the American flag draped on her shoulder and oak branches on her arm. While the sun shines in the background, she walks with a stretched arm, generously welcoming those looking for a fresh start in the new land. Arching over her, we can read the word “LIBERTY.” Aside, the motto reads: “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and on the bottom, the year of mintage.

The bald eagle has long been the reverse design. As 2021 marked the program's 35th anniversary, the US Mint released a new reverse side, depicting a bald eagle perching on a branch. Inscriptions regarding the coin’s weight, metal content, and purity are: “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “ONE DOLLAR,” “1 OZ,” and “FINE SILVER.”

The NGC Grade

The NGC is a well-respected service with an international reputation that evaluates and grades coins using the Sheldon grading scale. Based on the coin's condition, the scale goes from 1 to 70.

“MS” stands for “mint state.” It refers to a business strike coin that has received a grade above 60 or, in other words, shows little traces of post-production marks.

The American Eagle Series

Silver Eagles were the result of the Liberty Coin Act in 1985. The main idea was to use the national defense stockpile and make silver bullion circulate as a private investment.

Both Gold and Silver Eagles quickly conquered investors and collectors, becoming the most-sold coins worldwide.

The program's success stimulated an expansion of the program with the release of the Platinum Eagles and, for some years, Palladium Eagles as well.

The Silver Eagle remained a one-troy-ounce coin, but it is also available in Burnished and Proof versions as well.

Why Buy Silver Eagles

Silver Eagles carry more than precious metals. Because of the history imprinted in their motifs, these coins also have some numismatic value.

They are the US's official silver bullion coin, guaranteeing their legal tender status and one-dollar denominations.

Besides, these coins are 99.9% of fine silver. The nature of precious metals provides intrinsic value. Therefore, they are worth at least their one-troy-ounce weight in silver.
