2014 PCGS MS-70 1 oz American Silver Eagle Coin

The first American Silver Eagle debuted in the bullion market in 1986 when the American Eagle Program was launched.

It was the official silver coin in the US, manufactured by the US Mint containing 1 Troy oz of 99.9% fine silver and featuring the “Walking Liberty” design, created by Adolph A. Weinman, which initially stamped the 1917 Half-Dollar Coin.

The Design

On the obverse, Lady Liberty walks toward the sun's rays enveloped in the American flag. She carries oak and laurel branches in one hand and stretches the other in a warm welcome sign. The design also contains the word “LIBERTY,” the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and the year of mintage.

On the reverse, Chief Engraver John Mercanti designed the Heraldic Eagle with the National Shield on its chest, arrows and olive branches on its talons, and a banner with the inscription “E PLURIBUS UNUM” on its beak.

It also features Thirteen pointed stars in a triangular format over the Heraldic Eagle representing the original colonies, and the inscriptions “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “1 OZ FINE SILVER,” and “ONE DOLLAR,” describing the face value, weight, metal content, and purity.
