2020-(P) PCGS MS-69 Emergency Issue - 1 oz American Silver Eagle Coin Struck at Philadelphia Mint
American Silver Eagles rank among the most sought-after silver coins worldwide. However, the year 2020, marked by the COVID-19 pandemic, stands out in American coinage history due to unprecedented demand for Silver Eagles. This prompted the US Mint to produce and release an emergency supply of these coins to meet investors’ needs.
While these coins lack mint marks identifying their origins, PCGS distinguishes them by including a “P” in parentheses on their labels.
This specific set comprises Silver Eagles struck as Emergency Issues in 2020 at the Philadelphia Mint, authenticated as MS-69 coins, and sealed by PCGS with a (P) mark.

The Design
The obverse showcases Adolph A. Weinman’s “The Walking Liberty” design, which features Lady Liberty walking towards the sun folded in the American flag.
Lady Liberty stretches one arm to welcome those seeking shelter in the New World and has oak and laurel branches on the other. The word “LIBERTY” arches on top, the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST” is aside, and the year of mintage is at the bottom.
The reverse design is signed by the 12th Chief Engraver of the US Mint, John Mercanti. The Heraldic Eagle has the National Shield on its chest, arrows and olive branches on its talons, and a banner with the inscription “E PLURIBUS UNUM” on its beak. The Thirteen Original Colonies are represented by the stars above the Heraldic Eagle.
The inscriptions “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “1 OZ FINE SILVER,” and “ONE DOLLAR” describe the face value, weight, metal content, and purity data.
