  • Bears a one-dollar denomination and legal tender status;
  • Issued in the first 30 days of the 2024 edition;
  • Certified, encapsulated, and graded as a perfect MS-70 coin by the PCGS;
  • The “Walking Liberty” design is on the obverse;
  • The new reverse mintage with the Bald Eagle is on the reverse.

The Design

The Walking Liberty, which stamps the obverse of American Silver Eagles, is a creation of Adolph A. Weinman to be on the Half Dollar coin in 1917. The design's popularity brought Lady Liberty back to the American Eagles Program.

Lady Liberty walks, carrying oak branches and welcoming those seeking shelter in the American lands. The American flag draped on her shoulder seems to fly with the wind while the sun rises in the background. The inscriptions engraved are: “LIBERTY,” the year of issuance, and “IN GOD WE TRUST.”

The new reverse mintage showcases the Bald Eagle perching on a branch with its open wings. The engravings are “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “ONE DOLLAR,” “1 OZ,” and “FINE SILVER,” referring to the coin’s face value, weight, and metal content, separated by stars and the motto “E PLURIBUS UNUM.”

The Sheldon Grading Scale

The Sheldon Scale is the standard for grading U.S. coins, and the major third-party grading services, like the PCGS - Professional Coin Grading Service, use it when assigning a grade to a coin.

It is named after its creator, Dr. Willian Herbert Sheldon, and it ranks a coin’s status into 70 categories according to its condition and authenticity. The highest score it gets, the closer the coin is to perfection.

An MS-70 Coin

MS stands for Mint State, which refers to a business strike coin or a coin issued with the same format as a popular circulated coin. However, these coins have never been in circulation and are in perfect mint condition. That is why they received a grade of 70, the highest score on the scale.
