The Design
The Walking Liberty design is a creation of Adolph A. Weinman, originally used to stamp the Half Dollar coin in 1917. The design moniker comes from the depiction of Liberty, the feminine personification of the US, who walks with the sun rays on the horizon. She has the American flag draped on her dress, oak branches in one of her arms, and a welcome gesture in the other. The words engraved are “LIBERTY” on the upper rim, “IN GOD WE TRUST” aside, and the mint year on the bottom.
The Bald Eagle has been a constant representation of American strength and freedom. It got a new depiction in 2020 by Emily Damstra, who gave the Eagle a more natural version, perching on a branch with open wings. “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “ONE DOLLAR,” “1 OZ,” and “FINE SILVER” are the description of the coin’s origin, face value, weight, fineness, and metal content.
An NGC MS-69 coin
NGC is the acronym for Numismatic Guaranty Company. According to the Sheldon Grading Scale, an MS coin, or Mint State coin, has the shape of a business coin, struck for popular circulation. 69 is attributed to coins with almost invisible flaws.
The Silver Eagles
The Liberty Coin Act, a landmark of the American Eagle Coin Series, aimed to circulate the national defense stockpile creating silver bullion coins for private investment.
The Silver Eagle 1 oz coin debuted right after the Gold Eagle in 1986. Both quickly became the most sought-after bullion coins despite other significant competitors, like South African Krugerrands and Canadian Maple Leaves.
Silver Eagles contain 1 oz of 99.9% pure silver and are 40.6mm in diameter. Varied reeded edges protect them from counterfeiting attempts. Because of their purity level, they are worth at least their weight in silver, based on the silver spot price. And they are legal tender and bear USD 1 face value.
