2021 (S) PCGS MS-70 First Strike Type 2 American Silver Eagle

There are many notable things about this coin. First, this coin was issued a MS-70 grade from PCGS, one of the world’s most trusted grading services. Next, the MS-70 means that the coin does not visibly display any defect. This coin is also a part of the “First Strike” mintage, meaning that this coin was struck within the first 30 days of issue. 

The coin is a Type 2 American Eagle from the San Francisco Mint. The type 2 silver eagle was released in mid-2021 as the first rendition of the coin since its inception in 1986. The San Francisco Mint is significant because there are a limited number of Silver Eagles struck at this mint each year. You can find all of these unique specifications on the label of the coin.

Each one-ounce silver eagle is struck with .999 fine silver and is shipped in a protective acrylic slab, as seen in the image above. 

The Design

The American Silver Eagle's Type 2 design is included on each coin. For the first time in 35 years, this coin boasts a new reverse design, which sets it apart from prior Silver American Eagle designs. In the original design, a bald eagle is depicted on the iconic Heraldic Eagle shape, with a shield and stripes in front of it. A bald eagle in flight with an oak branch in its talons is depicted in the new design.
