The American Silver Eagle, dating back to 1986 with more than 530 million put into circulation to date, is an iconic coin with a rich background.
The First Strike program was created by PCGS to give collectors the ability to purchase Graded Silver Eagles sent out within the first thirty days of the coins being minted.
The Coinage Act was passed by Congress in 1792 and the first US domestic mint was subsequently created. The US Mint has had branches all over the continental United States throughout the years. Silver Eagles, just like these MS-69 Graded Coins, have also been minted over the years by the San Francisco, Philadelphia, and West Point Mints.
The PCGS, or Professional Coin Grading Service, was founded in 1985 and has decades of experience grading and certifying coins. Their extensive knowledge gives buyers confidence in their grading methodology, knowing that the grade awarded to any coin by the PCGS will accurately reflect its condition.
The New 2021 Design
The obverse of the PCGS Graded Silver Eagle features one of the most common coin designs in the world, the Walking Liberty. This idea comes from the iconic Walking Liberty half dollars. It also displays the phrases "LIBERTY", "IN GOD WE TRUST", and the issue year.
The brand new design for the 2021 Silver Eagle depicts a single eagle coming in for a landing, carrying an oak branch as if to add it to a nest. Inscriptions are “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” “1 OZ. FINE SILVER,” and “ONE DOLLAR.” AIP Designer Emily Damstra created the design, which was sculpted by Mint Medallic Artist Michael Gaudioso.
PCGS grades this coin as an MS-69 American Eagle, meaning it was “virtually fully struck with minuscule imperfections visible upon close inspection.” In addition, this coin is deemed a “First Strike” release, meaning that this Type 2 Eagle was struck within the first 30 days of issue. The coin is shipped in a plastic presentation case, making for a clean presentation as well as protection when storing the coin. The PCGS label on the slab denotes both the grade and edition of this coin.
