In 2021, the US Mint celebrated the 35th Anniversary of the American Eagle Program, which introduced Gold and US Silver Eagles to the numismatic world.

In honor of this landmark, the US Mint updated the reverse design of the US Silver Eagle by depicting the Bald Eagle in a new way.

Therefore, in 2021, two types of US Silver Eagles were struck: the New Reverse Design and the Original Reverse Silver Eagle.

The Design

The obverse reproduced Adolph A. Weinman's Walking Liberty design initially imprinted on 1907 Half Dollar Coins.

It showcases Lady Liberty walking toward the sun's rays with her extended arm in a welcome sign. She carries oak and laurel branches on her arm and the American flag draped on her shoulder.

The word "LIBERTY," the motto "IN GOD WE TRUST," and the year of mintage complete the artistry.

The reverse displays 13 stars, representing the Thirteen Original Colonies, over the Eagle, which has the National Shield on its chest, arrows and olive branches in its talons, and a banner with "E PLURIBUS UNUM" in its beak. 

The engravings "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "1 OZ FINE SILVER," and "ONE DOLLAR" refer to face value, weight, metal content, and purity.
