The Design
Adolph A. Weinman’s "Walking Liberty" design features Lady Liberty draped in the American flag, striding toward. On one hand, she extends a welcoming gesture to those seeking refuge in the New World, while the other holds oak and laurel branches, symbolizing strength and victory.
The design includes the word "LIBERTY," the motto "IN GOD WE TRUST," and the year the coin was minted.
John Mercanti, the 12th Chief Engraver of the US Mint, created the Heraldic Eagle design. It depicts the eagle with a National Shield on its chest, clutching arrows and olive branches in its talons, and holding a banner in its beak with the inscription "E PLURIBUS UNUM."
The stars above the eagle represent the Thirteen Original Colonies. Additional inscriptions include "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "1 OZ FINE SILVER," and "ONE DOLLAR," which indicate the coin's face value, weight, metal content, and purity.
A PCGS MS-69 First Strike coin
PCGS - Professional Coin Grading Service is internationally recognized for appraising and grading coins using the Sheldon Grading Scale, which ranks coins from 1 to 70 based on their condition.
According to PCGS, “First Strike” refers to coins purchased from the US Mint within 30 days of its official release and submitted to its appraisal.
MS stands for Mint State. Mint State coins are shaped as business coins that have never circulated. 69 is the grade attributed to coins whose flaws are almost invisible.
