The Design

The reverse depicts the Heraldic Eagle carrying the National shield on its chest beneath thirteen stars representing the original Thirteen Colonies, arrows and olive branches on its talons, and a banner with the motto “E PLURIBUS UNUM” on its beak. 

It also features the words “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “1 OZ FINE SILVER,” and “ONE DOLLAR,” which stand for face value, weight, metal content, and purity.

The obverse portrays Lady Liberty folded in the American flag, striding towards the sun with the oak and laurel branches in her arm. The word “LIBERTY,” the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and the year of issuance complete the image.
