The US Mint introduced American Silver Eagles to the world in 1986.

US Silver Eagles contain 1 Troy oz of 99.9% fine silver and are imprinted with a patriotic design starring Lady Liberty and the Heraldic Eagle, the most iconic symbols of American coinage.

The Design

The “Walking Liberty” design showcases Lady Liberty striding toward the sun's rays enveloped in the American flag, carrying oak and laurel branches in one hand while stretching the other arm to welcome new immigrants. 

The design also contains the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST,” the word “LIBERTY,” and the year of mintage.

The reverse stamps the Heraldic Eagle with the National Shield on its chest, arrows and olive branches on its talons, and a banner with the inscription “E PLURIBUS UNUM” on its beak. Thirteen pointed stars above the Eagle represent the original colonies.

The inscriptions  “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “1 OZ FINE SILVER,” and “ONE DOLLAR” informing face value, weight, metal content, and purity complete the image.
