The Design

The “Walking Liberty” depicts Lady Liberty walking toward the sun's rays, with the American flag draped on her shoulder, oak, and laurel branches in one hand, and her other arm stretched to welcome new immigrants. 

It contains the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST,” the word “LIBERTY,” and the year of mintage.

The reverse features the Heraldic Eagle with the National Shield on its chest, arrows and olive branches on its talons, and a banner engraved “E PLURIBUS UNUM” on its beak. Thirteen pointed stars above the Eagle represent the original colonies.

Further inscriptions read “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “1 OZ FINE SILVER,” and “ONE DOLLAR” for face value, weight, metal content, and purity.
