Random US Silver Eagle NGC/PCGS MS-70 Coin - Milk Spotted
US Silver Eagles symbolize the nation's fundamental ideals and feature remarkable patriotic designs. In addition, they are sovereign silver coins with legal tender status and made of 1 troy oz of 99.9% fine silver.
These Silver Eagles, in particular, remain nearly flawless in terms of technical quality. However, they may display discoloration or spotting developed over time during storage.
Today, SD Bullion sells 1 oz American Silver Eagle coins from various mintage years, graded as MS-70. They may be housed in either NGC or PCGS slabs, randomly selected from our inventory at the time of shipping.

The Design
The obverse of the American Silver Eagle features Adolph A. Weinman’s Walking Liberty, a design originally used on the 1916 half-dollar. Lady Liberty is depicted walking toward the sun’s rays, draped in the American flag, with her right hand extended in welcome and her left hand holding branches of laurel and oak.
The reverse design varies by year:
- 1986–2020: The Heraldic Eagle, designed by John Mercanti, with a shield on its chest, arrows and olive branches in its talons, and a banner in its beak inscribed with "E PLURIBUS UNUM".
- 2021–present: The Bald Eagle, designed by Emily Damstra, perched on a branch with its wings spread wide.
An NGC or PCGS MS-70 Coin, Milk Spotted
PCGS (Professional Coin Grading Service) and NGC (Numismatic Guaranty Company) are third-party services that use the Sheldon Scale to grade coins submitted for appraisal, assigning them a grade from 1 to 70.
For both services, MS stands for Mint State, indicating a coin crafted in the format of a business circulation coin. The scale assigns flawless coins a grade of 70, the highest grade.
Due to the manner in which milk spots can develop onto coins, there is no easy way for grading agencies to control or manage milk spots that develop onto the surface of coins later on after the coin has been placed into a slab. These spots often develop on coins after they've been slabbed due to moisture not visible during their grading phase. There's no way to account for this because milk spots can take years to develop.
While some collectors believe this can degrade the eye appeal of the coins, other collectors view milk spots as merely a result of working with and collecting pure silver. Here at SD Bullion, we aim to provide products that meet or exceed both collector's expectations by making sure our Random US Silver Eagle NGC/PCGS MS-70 Coin does not have any existing milk spots, while offering items that have milk spots through this page.
