The Design
On the obverse, Lady Liberty walks toward the sun's rays, with the American flag draped on her shoulder. She carries oak and laurel branches and extends the other arm to welcome new immigrants to the American land.
It is also engraved with the word "LIBERTY," the motto "IN GOD WE TRUST," and the year of mintage.
The Heraldic eagle imprinted on the reverse is beneath stars, representing the Thirteen Original Colonies. The Eagle has the National Shield on its chest, arrows and olive branches in its talons, and a banner with "E PLURIBUS UNUM" in its beak.
The engravings "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "1 OZ FINE SILVER," and "ONE DOLLAR" inform the coin's face value, weight, metal content, and purity.
