1924 NGC MS-62 Peace Dollar Silver Coin

The Peace Dollar, introduced in 1921 as a symbol of hope and peace after the devastation of World War I, replaced the Morgan Dollar as the U.S. silver dollar.

Designed by Italian-American sculptor Anthony de Francisci, the U.S. Mint produced Peace Dollars from 1921 to 1928 and briefly again in 1934 and 1935. Like the Morgan Dollar, each coin contains .7734 ounces of 90% silver.

SD Bullion offers 1924 Peace Dollar Silver Coins sealed in NGC slabs and certified as MS-62 coins.

Coin Highlights

  • Appraised, encapsulated, and graded as MS-62 by NGC;

  • Contains .7734 oz of silver;

  • Produced by the US Mint;

  • Hold a face value of USD 1, backed by the US government;

  • The reverse depicts a peaceful bald eagle;

  • The obverse portrays Lady Liberty.

The Design

The obverse displays Lady Liberty wearing a radiant crown inscribed “LIBERTY.” The design also contains the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST” and the year of issuance.

The reverse depicts a peaceful bald eagle resting on a rock, holding an olive branch in its talon.

It also features the inscriptions “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” “ONE DOLLAR,” and “PEACE.”

An NGC MS-62 coin

Numismatic Guaranty Company (NGC) appraises and grades coins using the Sheldon Grading Scale, which ranks coins from 1 to 70 based on their condition.

An MS coin indicates a Mint State coin issued as a business circulation one. Grade 62 suggests that the coin may present marks and hairlines in focal areas, noticeable scuff marks, and below-average planchet quality. But acceptable overall appearance.
