1880-O PCGS MS-63 Morgan Dollar Silver Coin

The US Mint produced Morgan Silver Dollars, which were the circulating one-dollar coins in the US, between 1878 and 1904.

They were reintroduced in the market once more in 1921 and were later returned in 2021 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of their final official minting.

Morgan Dollars carry their designer’s name, George T. Morgan, the fourth Chief Engraver of the US Mint. The artistry was inspired by America's westward expansion and industrial development in the 19th century.

The US Mint produced Morgan Silver Dollars at various official branches over the years, with those from the New Orleans Mint featuring the "O" mint mark.

Today, SD Bullion sells 1880-O Morgan Silver Dollar Coins, sealed in PCGS slabs and graded as MS-63 samples.

Coin Highlights

  • Evaluated, encapsulated, and graded as MS-63 coin by PCGS;
  • Contains .7734 oz of silver;
  • Produced by the US Mint;
  • Issued in the New Orleans branch and bear the “O” mint mark;
  • Holds USD 1 denomination and legal tender status;
  • The obverse features Lady Liberty;
  • The reverse showcases the Bald Eagle.

The Design

The obverse displays Lady Liberty’s profile, wearing a Phrygian cap adorned with wheat and cotton balls and a tiara inscribed with “LIBERTY.”

The motto “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” thirteen five-pointed stars representing the Thirteen Original Colonies and the year of issuance are also engraved.

The reverse features the Bald Eagle with outstretched wings, arrows, and olive branches in its talons and laurels surrounding it.

The motto “IN GOD WE TRUST” and the words “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and “ONE DOLLAR” complete the design.

A PCGS MS-63 Coin

PCGS (Professional Coin Grading Service) appraises and grades coins using the Sheldon Grading Scale as a parameter. It works apart from sovereign mints, certifying coins from 1 to 70, according to their condition.

MS stands for Mint State, indicating a coin produced in a business circulation sample format. Grade 63 indicates that the coin may present marks and minor visible hairlines but still have an attractive overall appearance.
