The Design

Lady Liberty, portrayed in the obverse, wears a Phrygian cap adorned with wheat and cotton balls and a tiara inscribed “LIBERTY.” 

Her left profile image is accompanied by the motto “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” thirteen five-pointed stars representing the Thirteen Original Colonies and the year of issuance.

The Bald Eagle, displayed on the reverse, has outstretched wings, arrows, and olive branches in its talons and laurels surrounding it. The “D” mint mark from the Denver Mint is beneath the laurel wreath.

The inscriptions “IN GOD WE TRUST,” “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” and “ONE DOLLAR” supplement the image.

NGC—Numismatic Guaranty Company appraises and grades coins independently from sovereign mints. It uses the Sheldon Grading Scale to rank coins from 1 to 70.

MS stands for Mint State, indicating a coin produced in a business circulation sample format. Grade 63 indicates that the coin may present marks and minor visible hairlines but still have an attractive overall appearance.
