2024-W PCGS SP-70 First Day Of Issue 1 oz American Silver Eagle Burnished Coin - West Point Label
The American Silver Eagles’ design manifests patriotism and pride by depicting symbols of American core principles. Adolph A. Weinman's Walking Liberty was rescued from the 1917 Half-Dollar coin, and Emily Damstra's Bald Eagle is a commemorative design for the 35th anniversary of the American Eagles Program.
These specific coins are burnished versions, minted at the West Point branch, and feature the “W” mint mark. The blanks used in their making went through a special treatment process called burnishing, which cleans them from undesired oxides, resulting in a matte finish with more vivid design details.
Today, you can find 2024-W 1 oz Burnished American Silver Eagles at SD Bullion, taken among those available for purchase in the US Mint on day #1. They are graded as SP-70 samples sealed in PCGS slabs with a special West Point Label.

The Design
The obverse features the Walking Liberty design by Adolph A. Weinman, portraying Lady Liberty, the nation's feminine symbol, walking toward the sun with an outstretched arm, the American flag draped over her shoulder, and oak branches in her arm.
The word “LIBERTY” is inscribed at the top, the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST” is on the lower right, with the “W” West Point mint mark beneath it, and “2024” at the bottom rim.
The new reverse design, introduced in 2021 by Emily Damstra, depicts a Bald Eagle perched on a branch. Surrounding the image are inscriptions detailing the coin’s weight, metal content, and purity: “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “ONE DOLLAR,” “1 OZ,” and “FINE SILVER.”
Burnished Coins
A Burnished American Eagle Coin results from a “burnishing” process, hence the name. It essentially means that the blanks are cleaned from all oxides formed during the annealing and rimming process. This way, burnished coins get a satin look and a smooth surface but less reflective luster than Proof American Eagles.
