2024-(P) NGC MS-69 Star Privy 1 oz American Silver Eagle Coin Mint Error Struck Thru
The American Silver Eagle, introduced in 1986 as the first coin in the American Eagle Program, is renowned for its elegant designs and iconic national symbols.
This special edition, created by the US Mint is limited to 500,000 pieces and struck at the Philadelphia Mint. This coin features enhanced security measures and, for the first time, a distinctive Star Privy below the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST” on the obverse.
Among those struck are a few Star Privys that contain minting errors. These are uncommon; when they occur, they become highly valuable collectibles. Struck-through errors are one possible type of mint error. They occur when something, such as debris or fabric, is caught between the dies during the minting process, imprinting an unusual mark on the coin.
Today, SD Bullion offers the 2024-(P) Star Privy 1 oz American Silver Eagle Coins, which are Obverse Struck-Through samples and sealed by NGC as MS-69.

The reverse features the Bald Eagle perched on a branch with its open wings.
Additional inscriptions read “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” “1 OZ FINE SILVER,” and “ONE DOLLAR” and inform the face value, weight, metal content, and purity data.
An NGC MS-69 Coin
Numismatic Guaranty Company (NGC) is renowned worldwide for assessing and grading coins using the Sheldon Grading Scale, which scores coins from 1 to 70.
MS stands for Mint State. Mint State coins are shaped as business coins. Grade 69 is attributed to coins whose flaws are almost invisible. That said, the mint error is certainly acknowledged. Whereas a mint error of this sort would disqualify the coin from receiving an MS-70 grade, in every other way the mint error does not factor into the final grade. As such, in every other way the coin exhibits striking exhibiting features of an MS-69 coin.
Star Privy Silver Eagle
Star Privy Silver Eagles were a special, limited-release bullion Silver Eagle minted at the Philadelphia Mint. In contrast, standard-issue bullion Silver Eagles are produced at the West Point Mint, a facility specifically designed for high-speed, high-quality bullion coin production.
The Philadelphia Mint primarily focuses on striking circulation coinage and collector releases. Because bullion coinage is rarely struck there, the Star Privy Silver Eagles were produced to a different quality standard than the standard West Point Silver Eagles. As a result, Philadelphia Mint Star Privy Silver Eagles may show spotting at a higher frequency than typical US Mint bullion products.
These coins would have arrived at NGC for review before milk spots would have surfaced. Despite that, time has passed since their initial grade and the items have since exhibited milk spotting. Any of these Struck Thru Star Privys exhibiting spotting are not eligible for return or exchange.
