The U.S. Mint honors the rich legacy of American coinage by recreating iconic silver coins.

In 2021, the centennial of the final Morgan Dollar mintage was celebrated with a special restrike of these silver dollars. Morgan Dollars were originally issued as one-dollar coins for domestic circulation from 1878 to 1904 and briefly again in 1921. 

Designed by U.S. Chief Engraver George T. Morgan, these coins represented America’s westward expansion and industrial progress during the 19th century. 

Several U.S. Mint branches contributed to their production over the years. Those issued in the Denver Mint, like these 2021 samples, bear the “D” mint mark.

The Design

The obverse features Lady Liberty, who wears a Phrygian cap adorned with wheat and cotton balls and a tiara inscribed "LIBERTY." 

The artistry includes the motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM," thirteen stars representing the original colonies and the year of issuance.

The reverse portrays a Bald Eagle with outstretched wings holding arrows and olive branches in its talons, encircled by laurels. 

The engravings "IN GOD WE TRUST," "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," and "ONE DOLLAR," and the “D” mint mark from the Denver Mint accompany the image.
