2007-W NGC MS-70 1 oz American Gold Eagle Burnished Coin
American Gold Eagles are 22k gold coins. The initial release featured a one-ounce coin, but the US Mint expanded the series to include fractional sizes and various finishes.
The 2007-W Gold Eagles are the burnished edition, minted at the West Point branch and marked with the “W” mint mark. The blanks used for these coins undergo a special burnishing process to remove unwanted oxides, resulting in a matte finish with enhanced design details.
At SD Bullion, you can find 2007-W 1 oz Burnished American Gold Eagles, certified by NGC as MS-70 coins.

The Design
Lady Liberty, displayed on the obverse, strides forward, carrying a torch and an olive branch, as a symbol of the nation's evolution toward progress, peace, and enlightenment.
The image also contains the Capitol Building, the word “LIBERTY,” and the coin’s mintage year. The “W” mint mark is on the right.
The family of Bald Eagles stamps the reverse. The female eagle cherishes its hatchling under her wing while the male perches their nest.
Information regarding weight, metal content, and face value is described as “1 OZ. FINE GOLD—50 DOLLARS.” The engravings “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and the mottos “E PLURIBUS UNUM” and “IN GOD WE TRUST” supplement the imagery.
Burnished Coins
A Burnished American Eagle Coin results from a “burnishing” process, hence the name. It essentially means that the blanks are cleaned from all oxides formed during the annealing and rimming process. This way, burnished coins get a satin look and a smooth surface but less reflective luster than Proof American Eagles.
An NGC MS-70 Coin
NGC (Numismatic Guaranty Company), like other third-party services, appraises coins using the Sheldon Scale, which ranks coins from 1 to 70, apart from sovereign mints.
MS stands for Mint State, indicating a coin crafted in the format of a business circulation coin. Since it has never been in circulation, the coin has no sign of wear, tear, or scratching, which grants it a 70 grade.
