2007 NGC MS-70 Early Releases 1 oz American Gold Buffalo Coin
The 2007 mintage was the second strike of the American Gold Buffalos. The US Mint introduced them in the numismatic market in 2006 as the first official 24k gold coin of the US.
Struck from 24-karat gold, this exquisite coin features James Earle Fraser's iconic design. It showcases a stoic Native American chief on the obverse and the majestic American buffalo on the reverse.
The 2007 1 oz American Gold Buffalo Coin is available for purchase at SD Bullion. It was among those made publicly available within the first 30 days of its official release and sealed by NGC as an MS-70 coin.
Coin Highlights
- Evaluated, encapsulated, and graded as MS-70 by NGC;
- Contains 1 oz of .9999 fine gold in BU condition;
- Produced by the US Mint;
- Purchased from the US Mint within the first 30 days of its official release;
- Face value of USD 50, guaranteed by the US Government;
- The obverse features a Native American Chief;
- The reverse displays the American Bison, which names the coin.
The Design
The obverse of the Gold Buffalo Coin is an enhanced rendition of the Indian Head Nickel, initially released in 1913 and crafted by James Earle Fraser. It depicts a right-facing portrait of a Native American, created by merging features from several tribes, including Big Tree, Iron Tail, and Two Moons.
The outer rim bears the inscription "LIBERTY" near the Native American’s forehead, the mintage year, and an "F" representing the artist’s initials in the lower left corner.
The reverse side features a majestic American Bison standing, which inspired the coin’s name.
The inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and the motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM" arch above the bison, with "IN GOD WE TRUST" placed near its muzzle. Beneath the bison are details about the coin’s weight, metal content, fineness, and face value, reading: "$50," "1 OZ .9999 FINE GOLD."
An NGC MS-70 Early Releases Coin
NGC - Numismatic Guaranty Company appraises and grades coins using the Sheldon Scale, which ranges from 1 to 70, apart from sovereign mints.
NGC considers an “Early Release” coin to be one purchased from the Royal Mint during the first 30 days of public availability.
MS abbreviates for Mint State and refers to coins crafted in the same format as a circulation coin that has never circulated. 70 is the highest grade, awarded to coins that do not present visible flaws.
