1891-O NGC AU-50 Morgan Silver Dollar Coin

George T. Morgan designed the dollar coin that circulated in the US from 1878 to 1904, containing .7734 ounces of silver. Morgan Dollars, as they came to be known, were struck for one last time in 1921 before they were replaced by the Peace Silver Dollars.

To celebrate the centennial of its last issuance, the US Mint struck a special edition of Morgan Silver Dollars in 2021.

The circulating Morgan Dollars were minted at several branches, including Philadelphia, New Orleans, Denver, San Francisco, and Carson City, which stopped minting in 1893.

Coins with the "O" mint mark were produced at the New Orleans Mint.

At SD Bullion, you can find 1891-O Morgan Silver Dollar Coins, sealed in NGC slabs and certified as AU-50 coins.

The Design

The obverse showcases Lady Liberty wearing a Phrygian cap adorned with wheat and cotton balls and a tiara inscribed “LIBERTY.”

On the reverse, the Bald Eagle has outstretched wings, arrows, and olive branches in its talons and laurels surrounding it.

The motto “IN GOD WE TRUST” and the words “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and “ONE DOLLAR” complete the image.

An NGC AU-50 coin

Numismatic Guaranty Company (NGC), a trusted third-party service, uses the Sheldon Grading Scale to appraise and certify coins. This ensures the authenticity and quality of numismatic items.

The scale ranges from 1 to 70 and indicates that an AU-50 coin is an almost uncirculated sample that displays signs of wear at the highest points of the coin and preserves at least half its original luster.
