1881-S PCGS MS-64 Morgan Silver Dollar Coin - Old Green Holder

The Morgan Silver Dollar is a shining example of American artistry and exceptional coinage. First minted in 1878, these coins were produced until 1904, with a final run in 1921. An, in 2021, in a commemorative strike, to celebrate the coin’s landmark of its last issuance.

They are celebrated for their beautiful design, signed by the 4th Chief Engraver of the US Mint, George T. Morgan, and historical significance, capturing the essence of a pivotal period in American history.

The Design

The obverse portrays Lady Liberty’s effigy, wearing a Phrygian cap enhanced with wheat and cotton balls and a tiara bearing the inscription “LIBERTY.” 

The artistry also contains the motto “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” thirteen five-pointed stars representing the Thirteen Original Colonies and the year of issuance.

The reverse depicts the Bald Eagle with outstretched wings, arrows, olive branches in its talons, and laurels surrounding it. 

The motto “IN GOD WE TRUST,” the “S” mint mark from the San Francisco Mint, and the words “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and “ONE DOLLAR” complete the design.
