The Design
The obverse portrays Lady Liberty’s effigy, wearing a Phrygian cap enhanced with wheat and cotton balls and a tiara bearing the inscription “LIBERTY.”
The artistry also contains the motto “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” thirteen five-pointed stars representing the Thirteen Original Colonies and the year of issuance.
The reverse depicts the Bald Eagle with outstretched wings, arrows, olive branches in its talons, and laurels surrounding it.
The motto “IN GOD WE TRUST,” the “S” mint mark from the San Francisco Mint, and the words “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and “ONE DOLLAR” complete the design.
