Morgan Silver Dollars are among the most cherished silver coins worldwide. Minted in significant quantities by the US Mint between 1878 and 1904, these coins contain .7734 Troy of silver and feature reeded edges.
The designs, created by Chief Engraver George T. Morgan and named in his honor, highlight two iconic symbols of American heritage: Lady Liberty and the Bald Eagle.
Morgan Dollars were produced at different US Mint facilities, including Philadelphia, New Orleans, Denver, San Francisco, and Carson City. The Carson City Mint ceased production in 1893.
Those issued in the New Orleans Mint bear the “O” mint mark.

The Design
The obverse portrays Lady Liberty in a Phrygian cap adorned with wheat and cotton balls and a tiara bearing the inscription “LIBERTY.”
The artistry includes the motto “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” thirteen five-pointed stars representing the Thirteen Original Colonies, and the year of issuance.
The reverse features the Bald Eagle with outstretched wings, arrows, and olive branches in its talons and laurels surrounding it.
It is also inscribed with the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST,” the “O” mint mark from the New Orleans branch, and the words “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and “ONE DOLLAR.”
