The Design

The obverse features Lady Liberty’s left-profile bust, wearing a Phrygian cap adorned with wheat and cotton balls and a tiara bearing the inscription “LIBERTY.” 

It also displays the motto “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” thirteen five-pointed stars representing the Thirteen Original Colonies and the year of issuance.

The reverse features the Bald Eagle with outstretched wings, holding arrows and olive branches in its talons, and laurels surrounding it. 

The inscriptions “IN GOD WE TRUST,” the “S” mint mark from the San Francisco Mint, and the words “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and “ONE DOLLAR” accompany the design.
