2026 NGC MS-70 First Day of Issue 1 oz American Silver Eagle Coin
Celebrated around the world, the American Silver Eagle stands as a hallmark of purity, craftsmanship, and national pride. Struck from .999 fine silver, this coin embodies the enduring spirit of American freedom and artistry that has defined the series since its debut in 1986.
Now available at SD Bullion, the 2026 1 oz American Silver Eagle coins were purchased directly from the U.S. Mint on day one of their official release and graded by NGC as MS-70 “First Day of Issue” coins — the highest grade attainable.
Coin Highlights
- Certified and encapsulated by NGC as a perfect MS-70 coin;
- Official “First Day of Issue” designation;
- Struck by the United States Mint;
- Contains 1 troy ounce of .999 fine silver;
- Legal tender with a $1 (USD) face value;
- Obverse: Walking Liberty design by Adolph A. Weinman;
- Reverse: Bald Eagle design by Emily Damstra.
The Design
The obverse replicates Adolph A. Weinman’s 1917 Walking Liberty design, originally featured on the Half Dollar coin. Lady Liberty, the graceful personification of the nation, strides forward with confidence, holding oak and laurel branches — symbols of strength and victory. Draped in the American flag and illuminated by the rising sun, she represents hope and a new dawn for freedom. Inscriptions include “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and the year of mintage.
The reverse portrays a majestic Bald Eagle with open wings in a perching stance, encircled by inscriptions noting the coin’s weight, metal content, and purity: “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “ONE DOLLAR,” “1 OZ,” and “FINE SILVER.” The national motto “E PLURIBUS UNUM” completes the elegant composition.
An NGC MS-70 “First Day of Issue” Coin
Third-party services such as NGC (Numismatic Guaranty Company) use the Sheldon Scale — ranging from 1 to 70 — as a global standard for coin grading. An NGC “First Day of Issue” coin is one that was purchased from its original mint on the first day of its official release and promptly submitted for grading.
The term MS stands for Mint State, referring to a coin struck in the same format as circulating coinage but never released for circulation. As a result, it shows no signs of wear, tear, or contact with other coins — earning the flawless MS-70 designation.
