The Morgan Dollar Design

The original design, created in 1878 by George T. Morgan, features a striking obverse with Lady Liberty facing left. She wears a Phrygian cap adorned with cotton bolls and wheat and a tiara bearing the word “LIBERTY.”

Above her head is the motto “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” accompanied by thirteen stars symbolizing the original colonies and the coin’s year of issue.

The reverse displays a majestic Bald Eagle with wings spread, clutching arrows and olive branches, surrounded by a laurel wreath. The phrase “IN GOD WE TRUST” appears above the eagle, while “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and “ONE DOLLAR” are inscribed around the edge.

Coins struck at the San Francisco Mint include a subtle “S” mint mark between the laurel and the denomination.

The Peace Dollar Design

The Peace Dollar features Anthony de Francisci's original 1921 design, which portrays Lady Liberty in profile wearing a radiant crown. The inscriptions “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and the year of minting complete the obverse design.

On the reverse, a Bald Eagle is perched on a rock, clutching an olive branch, symbolizing peace. Surrounding the image are the inscriptions: “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” “ONE DOLLAR,” and “PEACE.”

Coins minted in San Francisco include an “S” mint mark, positioned near the tip of the eagle’s wing and beside the denomination.
