The Morgan Silver Dollar minting started in 1878 and was minted until 1904 when the US Mint ceased production of dollar coins due to depleting silver reserves. There were two separate minting eras of the Morgan's, the first from 1878-1904 and another in 1921. These specific silver dollars are strictly minted in that first run (1878-1904) and are considered to be in BU condition (Brilliant Uncirculated). Each of these coins contains 0.7734 troy ounces of silver and carry a standard $1 face value.
The obverse of the Morgan Silver Dollar features George T. Morgan’s rendition of Lady Liberty is one of the most famous images on American coinage. Her left-profile is intricately depicted, adorning a headdress with the word ‘LIBERTY’ inscribed on it. The US motto at the time. “E PLURIBUS UNUM” is minted above Lady Liberty with the year that the coin is minted below her.
The reverse features a majestic eagle – clutching arrows and an olive branch in its talons. Its face value ‘ONE DOLLAR’ is imprinted below this image, while the name of the issuing country ‘UNITED STATES OF AMERICA’ encircles the Eagle.
