The Lunar Series follows a 12-year cycle, offering platinum, gold, and silver coins across various sizes and finishes. 

This particular coin is a silver edition featuring gilded design elements and marks the debut of King Charles III’s effigy on the series’ obverse.

The Design

The reverse depicts a coiled snake colorized in a golden tone because it is a gilded edition amidst a monochromatic backdrop. It includes a Chinese character and its translation, “SNAKE,” the year of issuance, “2025,” and a discreet “P” mint mark on the left identifying the Perth Mint.

The obverse, designed by Dan Thorne, portrays King Charles III’s effigy. It is encircled by inscriptions reading “CHARLES III,” “AUSTRALIA” on top, “1 oz 9999 Ag”, and “1 DOLLAR” on the bottom rim, referring to the coin’s weight, fineness, metal content, and face value.

The Chinese Zodiac cycles through its 12 animal signs annually, with each year linked to a specific creature. The Year of the Snake returns in 2025, following previous appearances in 2013, 2001, 1989, and earlier years.
