2025 American Gold Eagle Design
The obverse design was created by renowned sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens for the $20 Double Eagle coin in 1907. Though that coin was discontinued in 1933, the design found new life with the American Gold Eagle series in 1986.
Lady Liberty holds a torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left, symbolizing enlightenment and peace. Behind her, the sun's rays illuminate the scene, with the US Capitol building visible on the left side. The word "LIBERTY" is inscribed above, while six-pointed stars encircle the design.
On the reverse, Jennie Norris' depiction of a bald eagle captures the strength and dignity of the national bird. The mottos "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "IN GOD WE TRUST" are engraved above the eagle, while the outer edge of the coin bears the inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "5 DOLLARS 1/10 OZ. FINE GOLD."
