Morgan and Peace Silver Dollars are iconic pieces in U.S. Mint history, symbolizing a pivotal era in early 20th-century American coinage.
In 2021, the U.S. Mint launched a special two-coin set to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the final Morgan Dollar and the inaugural Peace Dollar. Due to its success, the Mint continued producing these coins annually. Those issued in the San Francisco Mint bear the “S” mint mark.
Today, SD Bullion offers a 2024-S Morgan & Peace Reverse Proof Silver 2-Coin Set purchased from the US Mint on day #1 of their official release. The coins were graded as PF-70 by NGC and sealed with Morgan & Peace Labels.

The Morgan Dollar Design
Morgan Dollars are named after their creator, George T. Morgan, and designed in 1878.
The obverse stamps Lady Liberty wearing a Phrygian cap adorned with wheat and cotton balls and a tiara inscribed “LIBERTY.”
The motto “‘E PLURIBUS UNUM,”’ thirteen five-pointed stars representing the Thirteen Original Colonies and the year of issuance are part of the design.
The reverse features the Bald Eagle, which has outstretched wings, arrows, and olive branches on its talons, and laurels surround it.
Accompanying engravings refer to the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST,” “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” and “ONE DOLLAR.” The imprinted “S” from the San Francisco branch is a discreet mark between the laurel and the face value inscription.
The Peace Dollar Design
Peace Dollars were designed by Anthony de Francisci in 1921.
On the obverse, Lady Liberty wears a radiant crown, along with the engravings “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and the year of issuance.
The reverse depicts the Eagle resting on a rock, holding an olive branch, representing peace. Further inscriptions read: “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” “ONE DOLLAR,” and “PEACE.”
The San Francisco mintmark on this coin appears next to the tip of the eagle’s wing and the coin’s face value.
An NGC PF-70 “First Day of Issue” Coin
Like other third-party services, NGC (Numismatic Guaranty Company) appraises and grades coins using the Sheldon Scale, which ranges from 1 to 70.
For NGC, a “First Day of Issue” coin is a sample purchased from its original mint on the first day of its official release and submitted to its appraisal.
PR stands for Proof Coin, indicating a coin produced for collection purposes. Because it is a reverse-proof coin, the background surfaces are matte, contrasting with the brilliant images engraved. 70 is the highest grade and indicates a coin with no visible flaws.
