In 2021, marking a century since their final issuance, the U.S. Mint commemorated Morgan Dollars with a special restrike. 

Originally minted from 1878 to 1904 as the nation’s primary one-dollar coin, Morgan Dollars saw a brief revival in 1921 to address domestic demand. 

Named after Chief Engraver George T. Morgan, these iconic coins symbolize America’s westward expansion and the industrial boom of the 19th century.

Several US Mint branches have produced Morgan Dollars over the years. Honoring the valuable contribution of the Carson City Mint, these 2021 samples, produced at the Philadelphia Mint, bear the “CC” mint mark.

The Design

On the obverse, Lady Liberty wears a Phrygian cap adorned with wheat and cotton balls and a tiara inscribed "LIBERTY." 

The motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM," thirteen stars representing the original colonies, and the year of issuance are displayed as well.

The reverse features a Bald Eagle with outstretched wings holding arrows and olive branches in its talons, encircled by laurels. 

The artistry also contains the engravings "IN GOD WE TRUST," "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," and "ONE DOLLAR," and the “CC” mint mark from the Carson City Mint.
