1972-S NGC Gem Proof 40% Silver Eisenhower Dollar - Charlie Duke Signed Label - Black Core
The U.S. Mint produced the Eisenhower Dollar from 1971 to 1978, making it the first dollar coin issued after the Peace Dollar series.
While standard circulation coins were struck in copper-nickel clad at the Philadelphia Mint, the San Francisco Mint released special Uncirculated and Proof versions containing 40% silver. These silver coins are distinguished by the "S" mint mark, indicating their origin at the San Francisco facility.
These coins, in particular, were submitted to NGC appraisal and sealed in Black Cores with NGC’s special Charlie Duke Handsigned Label.
Charlie Duke, the youngest person ever to walk on the moon, made history in April 1972 as the 10th man to set foot on the lunar surface during NASA's Apollo 16 mission—a record he still holds. Three years earlier, he served as the Capsule Communicator (CAPCOM) for Apollo 11, becoming the voice from Mission Control during the first moon landing in 1969. His enthusiastic response followed Neil Armstrong’s famous transmission: “Houston, Tranquility Base here. The Eagle has landed.”
Today, you can acquire 1972-S 40% Silver Eisenhower Dollars, graded by NCG as Gem Prof samples, and housed in Black Cores with the special Charlie Duke Handsigned Label.
