The Flowing Hair Dollar represents the United States' early steps toward financial independence, as it established a national identity through its coinage.
It was the first dollar coin issued by the United States federal government. Its production began in 1794 and continued into 1795 before being replaced by the Draped Bust dollar design.
The Flowing Hair design was created by Robert Scot, the first Chief Engraver of the U.S. Mint, and features American iconic symbols of patriotism on a half-dollar coin containing 0.3866 troy ounces of silver.

Encircling Lady Liberty are 15 stars, representing the fifteen states that had ratified the Constitution by 1794
The reverse displays a laurel wreath surrounding a small eagle with spread wings in the center, an early predecessor of the American heraldic eagle, and the inscription “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.”
Adding to its distinctiveness, the edge of the Flowing Hair dollar is lettered with the coin's denomination: "FIFTY CENTS ONE DOLLAR OR UNIT."
A PCGS VF-35 coin
Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS) operates independently of sovereign mints. It appraises and grades coins using the Sheldon Grading Scale, which ranges from 1 to 70.
According to the grading scale, VF stands for "very fine." A VF-35 denomination describes a coin that retains all its fine details but lacks the intricate, minute elements. While showing clear signs of minimal wear on its high points, the coin indicates limited circulation.
