The 1921 Morgan Silver Dollar is a landmark in American coinage history. It was the last strike of the design as the official circulating silver dollars.

The US Mint first released Morgan Dollars from 1878 to 1904. They were reintroduced in 1921, and in 2021, they released a commemorative bullion version to celebrate 100 years since the last official mintage.

The US Mint used several branches to manufacture Morgan Dollars, including Philadelphia, New Orleans, Denver, San Francisco, and Carson City. 

Coins with the "D" mint mark were produced at the Denver Mint.

The Design

The obverse showcases Lady Liberty wearing a Phrygian cap adorned with wheat and cotton balls and a tiara inscribed “LIBERTY.” 

Her left-profile bust includes the motto “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” thirteen five-pointed stars representing the Thirteen Original Colonies, and the year of issuance.

The reverse displays the Bald Eagle with outstretched wings, arrows, and olive branches in its talons and laurels surrounding it. The “D” mint mark from the Denver Mint is beneath the laurel wreath.

The motto “IN GOD WE TRUST” and the words “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and “ONE DOLLAR” complete the image.
