1904-O NGC MS-64 Morgan Silver Dollar Coin

The first strike of Morgan Dollars reached its term in 1904 when the US Mint ceased production. 

The US Mint released Morgan Dollars in 1878 to circulate in American hands as the official dollar coin and produced them until 1904.

Another quick strike of Morgan Dollars occurred in 1921 for the same purpose.

The US Mint manufactured Morgan Dollars through several branches, including Philadelphia, New Orleans, Denver, San Francisco, and Carson City, until 1893, when coinage operations in this last facility ceased.

Those coins which bear the “O” mint mark were issued in the New Orleans Mint.

The Design

The obverse portrays Lady Liberty’s left-profile bust wearing a Phrygian cap adorned with wheat and cotton balls and a tiara engraved “LIBERTY.” 

It includes the motto “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” thirteen five-pointed stars representing the Thirteen Original Colonies, and the year of issuance.

The reverse depicts the Bald Eagle with outstretched wings, arrows, and olive branches in its talons and laurels encircling it. 

Additional information refers to the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST” and the words “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “ONE DOLLAR,” and the “O” mint mark.
