Introducing the Liberty Double Eagle, the $20 gold coin circulated in the US from 1850 to 1907.
Liberty Double Eagles contain .9675 oz of gold and exhibit the US Mint’s high craftsmanship through Lady Liberty and the Heraldic Eagle’s design created by James B. Longacre, the fourth Chief Engraver of the US Mint.
Several official branches crafted $20 Liberty Double Eagle coins, and those issued by the San Francisco Mint bear the “S” mint mark on the reverse side.

The Design
Lady Liberty’s effigy, imprinted on the obverse, contains a tiara inscribed "LIBERTY," thirteen six-pointed stars representing the original Thirteen Colonies and the year of mintage.
The Heraldic Eagle reverse design showcases the Eagle with spread wings, arrows in its talons, the national shield on its chest, and the banner "E PLURIBUS UNUM" in its beak.
The words "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," the motto "IN GOD WE TRUST," and the coin's face value of "TWENTY DOLLARS" complete the image.
