2023 NGC MS-70 First Releases 1 oz American Buffalo Gold Coin - Buffalo Label
In 2006, the US Mint expanded the bullion market by introducing the Gold Buffalo Coins, the nation’s first official 24k gold coin.
Each coin contains 1 troy ounce of 99.99% pure gold and features James Earl Fraser's famous 1913 Indian Head design, symbolizing America's deep cultural heritage.
These US Gold Buffalos, in particular, were purchased from the US Mint within 30 days of their official release and submitted to NGC appraisal.
Today, at SD Bullion, you can acquire 2023 1 oz American Gold Buffalo Coins, graded as MS-70 coins and sealed in NGC slabs with the exclusive Buffalo Label.
Coin Highlights
- Evaluated, encapsulated, and graded as perfect MS-70 coins by NGC;
- Sealed with the exclusive Buffalo Label;
- Produced by the US Mint;
- Purchased within 30 days of its official release;
- Contains 1 oz of .9999 pure gold;
- Holds a face value of USD 50, backed by the US Government;
- The obverse showcases the Native American Chief;
- The reverse features the American Bison or the Buffalo.
The Design
The obverse portrays James Earl Fraser’s Native American Chief design. It depicts a right-profile bust that combines traces from Native American tribes: the Big Tree, the Iron Tail, and the Two Moons.
The word “LIBERTY” in front of the Native’s forehead, the year of mintage, and an “F,” referring to the artist’s initials, are included.
On the reverse, a giant American Bison, in an upstanding depiction, covers most of the surface, resembling a Buffalo. Hence, the coin’s moniker.
It also contains the engravings “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” “$50,” and “1 OZ .9999 FINE GOLD,” referring to the coin’s denomination, weight, fineness, and metal content.
An NGC MS-70 First Releases coin
Coin grading services like NGC - Numismatic Guaranty Company appraise and grade coins using the Sheldon Scale, which ranges from 1 to 70, depending on their condition.
According to NGC, “First Releases” refers to coins purchased from their original mint within the first 30 days of their official release and submitted to NGC appraisal.
MS means Mint State, referring to coins fabricated with the same shape as a popular business coin that remained uncirculated. 70, the highest grade on the scale, is for a coin with no visible flaws.
