The Design

Lady Liberty’s effigy is depicted on the obverse wearing a Phrygian cap adorned with wheat and cotton balls and a tiara inscribed “LIBERTY.” 

It includes the motto “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” thirteen five-pointed stars representing the Thirteen Original Colonies, and the year of issuance.

The reverse displays the Bald Eagle’s portrayal with outstretched wings, arrows, and olive branches in its talons and laurels surrounding it. 

The motto “IN GOD WE TRUST,” the words “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “ONE DOLLAR,” and the “O” mint mark from the New Orleans Mint complete the design.
