1898-O PCGS MS-65 Morgan Dollar Silver Coin
Morgan Dollars were official dollar coins circulating in American hands from 1878 to 1904 and 1921. Designed by George T. Morgan, the US Mint produced these coins, each containing .7734 ounces of silver.
Morgan Silver Dollars represent an era of transition and optimism for the United States. They were minted during the Gilded Age, a period marked by rapid economic growth, industrialization, and the rise of American cities.
Several American branches crafted these silver coins: Philadelphia, New Orleans, Denver, San Francisco, and Carson City, the latter of which ceased its coinage operations in 1893.
Those issued in the New Orleans Mint carry the “O” mint mark.
Today, SD Bullion offers 1898-O Morgan Silver Dollar Coins, sealed and graded as MS-65 samples by PCGS.

Lady Liberty was portrayed on the obverse wearing a Phrygian cap adorned with wheat and cotton balls and a tiara inscribed “LIBERTY.”
The artistry also contains the motto “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” thirteen five-pointed stars representing the Thirteen Original Colonies and the year of issuance.
On the reverse, the Bald Eagle has outstretched wings, arrows, and olive branches in its talons and laurels surrounding it.
Accompanying engravings refer to the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST,” the words “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and “ONE DOLLAR,” and the “O” mint mark from the New Orleans Mint.
A PCGS MS-65 coin
PCGS (Professional Coin Grading Service) appraises and grades coins using the Sheldon Scale, which ranks coins from 1 to 70.
An MS-65 coin means that the analyzed coin has the same format as a business coin that still displays high-quality luster despite its aged mintage. Minor contact marks and scatters may be noticeable, but the coin has an overall quality above the average.
