Morgan Dollars were circulating dollar coins in the US from 1878 to 1921. The US Mint produced them with George T. Morgan’s design and contained .7734 ounces of silver. 

These coins were minted at several branches, including Philadelphia, New Orleans, Denver, San Francisco, and Carson City, which stopped minting in 1893. 

Coins with the "O" mint mark were produced at the New Orleans Mint.

The Design

George T. Morgan designed the obverse, which features Lady Liberty wearing a Phrygian cap adorned with wheat and cotton balls and a tiara inscribed “LIBERTY.” 

The motto “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” thirteen five-pointed stars representing the Thirteen Original Colonies, and the year of issuance complete the image.

On the reverse, the Bald Eagle has outstretched wings, arrows, and olive branches in its talons and laurels surrounding it. 

It also features the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST” and the words “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and “ONE DOLLAR.”
