1886 PCGS MS-63 Morgan Dollar Silver Coin - Old Green Holder

Between 1878 and 1904, Morgan Silver Dollars were part of the US Mint’s regular production of silver coins. They aimed to meet internal demand for a circulating one-dollar coin.

The US Mint returned the production of Morgan Dollars in 1921 and once more in 2021 to celebrate the landmark of the 100th anniversary of its last official minting.

The fourth US Mint Chief Engraver, George T. Morgan, designed this coin inspired by America's westward expansion and industrial growth in the 19th century. Hence, this silver coin is named after him.

Today, you can find 1886 Morgan Silver Dollar Coins at SD Bullion, graded as MS-63 samples and sealed in the rare Old Green Holders, which PCGS used to encapsulate coins from 1989 to 1998.

The reverse depicts the bald eagle with outstretched wings, arrows, olive branches in its talons, and laurels surrounding it.

The image includes the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST” and the words “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and “ONE DOLLAR.”

A PCGS MS-63 Coin

PCGS (Professional Coin Grading Service) appraises and grades coins using the Sheldon Grading Scale as a parameter. It works apart from sovereign mints, certifying coins from 1 to 70, according to their condition.

MS stands for Mint State, indicating a coin produced in a business circulation sample format. Grade 63 indicates that the coin may present marks and minor visible hairlines but still have an attractive overall appearance.
