The Design

The obverse features Lady Liberty  wearing a Phrygian cap enhanced with wheat and cotton balls and a tiara inscribed with “LIBERTY.” 

It also contains the motto “E PLURIBUS UNUM, ”thirteen five-pointed stars representing the Thirteen Original Colonies and the coin’s year of issuance.

The reverse showcases the Bald Eagle with outstretched wings, arrows, and olive branches in its talons and laurels surrounding it. 

The engravings refer to the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST,” the words “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and the face dollar “ONE DOLLAR” complement the image.

An NGC MS-63 Coin

NGC—Numismatic Guaranty Company appraises and grades coins independently from sovereign mints. It uses the Sheldon Grading Scale to rank coins from 1 to 70.

An MS-63+ graded coin is slightly better than an MS-63 one. MS stands for Mint State, indicating a coin produced in a business circulation sample format. Grade 63 indicates that the coin may present marks and minor visible hairlines but still have an attractive overall appearance.
