1879-S NGC MS-64 Morgan Silver Dollar Coin
Morgan Silver Dollars were the official US dollar coin from 1878 to 1904 and briefly again in 1921.
Named for designer George T. Morgan, they were struck at various locations, including Philadelphia, New Orleans, Denver, San Francisco, and Carson City until 1893, when the Carson City Mint closed.
These coins, in particular, bear the “S” mint mark, indicating they were issued by the San Francisco branch.
Today, SD Bullion presents 1879-S Morgan Silver Dollar Coins, graded and certified by NGC as MS-64 coins.

The reverse features the Bald Eagle with outstretched wings, arrows, and olive branches in its talons, and laurels surrounding it. The words “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and “ONE DOLLAR” encircle the entire design, while the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST” is inscribed above the eagle’s head.
The “S” mint mark from the San Francisco branch appears beneath the Eagle.
An NGC MS-64 coin
NGC stands for Numismatic Guaranty Company. It works independently from sovereign mints, attributing grades to coins based on the Sheldon Grading Scale, which ranges from 1 to 70.
MS stands for Mint State, referring to coins issued in the same format as a business circulation coin. 64 is the grade given to coins with average luster, noticeable, light scuff marks, or defects but with attractive overall quality.
