1878 PCGS MS-63 Morgan Silver Dollar Coin - 8 Tail Feathers
The US Mint first released the Morgan Dollar coin in 1878 to serve as the circulating USD 1 coin.
Morgan Dollars contained .7734 oz of silver and an alluring design created by Geroge T. Morgan, hence the coin’s moniker.
However, during the second week of issuance, the US Mint Superintendent Henry Linderman noticed a "slight imperfection" in the dies used to mint Morgan Silver Dollars. The bald eagle in the reverse design was depicted with 8 tail feathers. However, all previous designs of Bald Eagles in American coins featured an odd number of tail feathers. Thus, after only two weeks of production, the dies had to be changed to reduce the number of those feathers from 8 to 7.
These rare coins are sourced among those produced during the first two weeks of Morgan Dollar strikes at the US Mint. Hence, the eagle on the reverse design has 8 tail feathers, showcasing a real treasure in US Coinage history.
Today, SD Bullion offers the debuting 1878 Morgan Silver Dollar, struck with 8 Tail Feathers, sealed and certified by PCGS as MS-63 coins.

A PCGS MS-63 Coin
PCGS (Professional Coin Grading Service) is internationally recognized for appraising and grading coins using the Sheldon Grading Scale as a parameter. It works apart from sovereign mints, certifying coins from 1 to 70, according to their condition.
MS stands for Mint State, indicating a coin produced in a business circulation sample format. Grade 63 indicates that the coin may present marks and minor visible hairlines but still have an attractive overall appearance.
